Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders Consortium

Welcome

The South Carolina Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders Consortium consists of  a network of professionals in various fields who are united by their mission to understand neurodevelopmental and autism spectrum disorders to provide support for families throughout the state of South Carolina.

Neurodevelopmental disorders are caused by differences in growth and development of the brain or central nervous system and often, neurodevelopmental disorders  unfold as an individual grows. Some examples include Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Global Developmental Delay, Language Disorder, etc. Autism spectrum disorder is a specific kind of neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people as well as using language and abstract concepts.

The mission of the South Carolina Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders (SCAND) Consortium is to drive research excellence in South Carolina for clinical, translational and mechanistic studies aimed at understanding and treating neurodevelopmental and autism spectrum disorders through a state-wide, multi-disciplinary research consortium.
